Faculty Development Programme on “Novel Approaches in Research for Agriculture and Biotechnology” on 16th & 17th January 2018
Department of Agriculture and Department of Biotechnology organized two days Faculty Development Programme on “Novel Approaches in Research for Agriculture and Biotechnology” on 16th & 17th January, 2018. On the first day Dr.Surbhi Sharma Assistant Professor, Agriculture Department welcomed the speakers and faculty members and briefed about the various sessions of the programme. The session was started with the presentation of Dr. Ajit Pal Singh, Professor, Department of Animal Sciences, KVK (Bathinda) on Dairy farming in which he discussed various issues related to management of cattles, quality milk production, breeding methods for the production of new hybrids, marketing of milk products and cost benefit ratios. He solved various queries asked by the faculty members related to poultry, animal management and cattle rearing. Dr. S S. Bal, Dean, Department of Agriculture honoured Dr. Ajitpal Singh with memento. Then, Dr. G.S.Mahal, Senior faculty member of Agriculture Department, Baba Farid College, discussed about the procedure of release and notification of varieties developed by breeders/scientists. He clarified the various concepts that how varieties of various field crops undergone the process of different trials until they are released for distribution to the farmers with respect to distinctiveness, stability and uniformity testing of plant varieties.. After lunch break, Dr.G.S.Gatoria Senior faculty member of Agriculture Department, Baba Farid College, showed various techniques of management of Apis spp. used for honey production, artificial insemination in bees and eco-friendly co-ordination of bees with humans. Afterwards, Dr.Tarlok Singh, Senior faculty member of Agriculture highlighted on the shift in weed flora in the Punjab due to the vast production of paddy crop in the state which was not grown earlier back to 1970 and gave basic information about the floral characteristics of important agriculture, aquatic and xerophytic weeds. Mr. Pankaj Nagpal, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology, explained electrophoresis in detail through practical demonstration. On the second day i.e. 17th January 2018, Dr. Prakash Singh Assistant Professor Department of Biotechnology welcomed the dignitaries and faculty members and précised the various sessions of the day.

The session was started with the presentation of Dr. Manisha Dhiman, Assistant professor, Central University, Bathinda on the applications of molecular techniques in agriculture. She discussed the various molecular tools and methodologies related to agriculture and briefed about biofertilizers and biofungicides used in the production of various crops. She briefed that how MAS (Marker Assisted Selection) simplifies the hybrid production in plants in comparison to the conventional breeding. She cleared various questions related to molecular biology as well as biotechnology. She was honoured with a memento given by Dean of Agriculture Department. After her lecture, Mr.Gurpreet Singh a member of Kheti Virasat Mission, Jaito, Faridkot explained organic farming and its impact on the health of human beings and animals, soil fertility and obviously on plants flora and fauna. He was on eye-opener for the mankind as he explained that how food consumed by us is toxicated with the large amount of applications of fertilizers and pesticides and how its directly or indirectly effect the various issues of human health. Moreover he told various successful stories of his mission related to growth of crops by applying organic farming. He demonstrated that how vegetables should be grown in the field as well as in the kitchen garden practically. Besides, he distributed pamphlets, booklets and magazines of his mission among the faculty members. With his practical demonstration the two day faculty programme was concluded by honouring him with a token by Dr. S.S. Bal.
Rangoli and Diya Making
On 16th October 2017, students of 4 year 1st sem, 3rd sem and 5th sem of Agriculture Department Baba Farid College organized a competition on Rangoli and Diya making to celebrate the festival of lights, Diwali. Students participated and prepared beautiful diyas and colourful Rangoli in which Jharmal singh 4 year 3rd sem organized former whereas Vipandeep Singh latter. Dr. Manish Bansal, Principal Baba Farid College along with Mr. Jagmeet Singh Deputy Dean Activities distributed prizes among the winners as the judgment was done by Ms. Shivangi Saxena and Ms. Shelly (Assistasnt Professors, Department of Biotechonology). The position holders for above two competitions are as:

For Diya making Ist prize Jharmal Singh, Vipandeep Singh, Lovepreet Kaur ,Jaspeet Kaur and Harmanjot Singh; 2nd prize Hardeep Singh , Harsirat Singh and Adit Singla and 3rd prize Harkiran Kaur and Jasmine Kaur
Last but not the least, consolation prize was given to Bahadur Singh

Pollution free Diwali
To celebrate pollution and noise free Diwali this year, students of Agriculture Department of Baba Farid College take an initiative in this step by organizing a poster presenting competition on the theme of Pollution free Diwali on 12th October 2017. About 22 students of B.Sc. Agriculture 4 year 1st and 3rd Semester, participated enthusiastically in this competition and presented their posters on the occasion. Dr Harbans Lal Jasuja, Dean (Faculty of Science Department), was the chief guest of the event for encouraging the students to make this Diwali green and pollution free. He distributed prizes among the winners of the competition as first position was achieved by Adit Singla, Jaspreet Kaur, Arshdeep Kaur; 2nd position by Hanish Sharma, Amandeep Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur and 3rd position by Samandeep Singh, Arpandeep Singh and Piyush.

“Agri Fresher’s Beat 2K17” ORGANIZED BY DEPARTMENT OF AGRICUTURE, BABA FARID COLLEGE, BATHINDA, TO WELCOME THE FRESHERS ON 26th SEP. 2017.
Department of Agriculture, Baba Farid College, Bathinda, organized Freshers Party to welcome the newcomers under the theme “Agri Fresher’s Beat 2K17”. The function was well organized and occurred in a very descent manner in order to welcome the freshers (1st semester of 4 year (Agri.) by the students of 3rd semester of 4 year (Agri.). Both Freshers and older ones performed thrilling and folk-oriented stage performances. The overall management of the party was in the hands of the students, but only few faculty members especially ‘Activity members’ helped the students for organizing the same. The total gathering was nearbout 430 which included students, HoD’s of the respective faculties and other Faculty Members.
Different stage performances included solo singing, solo dance, Bhangra group; Malawai Gidda, Skit and Modelling were performed on the occassion.

The chairman of Baba Farid Group of Institutions, Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, also welcomed the new faces of the college and appreciated the overall arrangements of Freshers party. The hardwork of students and the staff members during preparation of different performances for the party was also appreciated. “Farewell Party 2017” Organized by Department of Agriculture, Baba Farid College, Bathinda, To Give Farewell to Outgoing Students on 28th April 2017
On dated 28th April 2017, Department of Agriculture, Baba Farid College, Bathinda, organized Farewell Party to bid adieu to the outgoing students, who were for long time of 6 years in this college, under the theme “Farewell Party 2017”. The function was celebrated by organizing lots of cultural activities to give farewell to seniors (12th semester of 6 year) by their juniors of 10th semester of 6 year. The students and faculty members especially ‘Activity members’ did a lot of preparation for organizing the part in a memorable way.
The Deputy Director Activities Mr. B.D. Sharma and Dean (Faculty of Agriculture) Dr. S. S. Bal were warm welcomed at the party and they watched all performances given by the students during the party. These heart breaking performances made them to sit for more than an hour out of their busy schedule to applause the efforts of the students. The Quawali of students was different from other performances of the party and it was widely appreciated.
Last but not the least, Deputy Director Activities and other dignitaries distributed prizes to Mr. Farewell, Navjinder Singh, Miss Farewell, Amandeep Kaur, Mr. Personality, Zora Singh, Mr Gabroo Dharamjot Singh, Mr Descent Ajaypal. BFC Entrepreneurship Programme 2017
Department of Agriculture, Biotechnology & Medical Sciences organized One day Exhibition cum sale by the Students under ‘BFC Entrepreneurship Programme 2017’ at BFGI campus for creating student’s awareness towards Entrepreneurship as career opportunity and also an initiative towards Indian Government’s ‘Start Up' Programme. In this programme, students enjoyed during the sale of products and they also earned pretty good amount. These products were prepared by the students under the live project programme of BFC. Students got immeasurable experience to become an entrepreneur and got a prodigious motivation from it. Students prepared various products such as Rose Water, Ark e Zeera, Ark e Tulsi, Amla Dry Fruits, Triphla Churan/ Ark e Triphla, Ayurvedic remedy for Uric Acid, Herbal Shampoo, Face Pack & Lip Balm, Bio- Fertilizers, Wheat grass powder, Tooth powder, Pickles and Squashes, Honey, Desi Ghee and khoa. Under the guidance of HODs and teachers, students enjoyed the event and felt that they use their study in their relative fields. Along with study, they want to contribute their own small scale business. Students are earning under earn while learn programme already started by BFGI.
National Nutrition Week, Celebrated on 6 Sept. 2016
On the occasion of National nutrition week, celebrated on 6th Sept.2016, Dr. Valentina Chauhan, Assistant Professor, Department of Agriculture, Baba Farid College has delivered a praiseworthy presentation on Food Nutrition, Food Hygiene and Mind Diet. Apart from information about nutritious food and importance of hygiene, she insisted on habit formation. Almost each and every person is aware about healthy diet and exercise but the problem is that no one follows the routine on daily basis. According to her by just bringing 1% of change in yourself can be really beneficial in your life time. The secret of healthy life was also discussed during the presentation in which it was insisted that there should be low intake of three white’s i.e. Fat, Sugar and Salt and high intake of roughage and water. She also discussed about the formula of healthy life “Healthy diet + Exercise = Long disease free life” .Along with this a very interesting concept of mind diet was also explained by her which includes thoughts, ideas and experiences your mind is exposed to. Over all it was a very interesting, interactive and informative presentation delivered by her. Sh. B.D.Sharma, Deputy Director Activities, BFGI and Dr S.S.Bal, Dean, Agriculture appreciated the efforts of Agriculture Department for organizing such knowledge enriching activities.

Roo Ba Roo Fresher’s Party 2016
Department of Agriculture, Baba Farid College, Bathinda organized Fresher’s Party on 7th September, 2016 to welcome the newcomers under the theme ROO BA ROO. The students of 4yr 3rdsem.cordially welcomed the newcomers. There were more than 20 stage performances. The overall arrangement of the party was in the hands of the students but 'Activity co-coordinators' helped the students for organizing the same. The total gathering was near about 550 which included students, HOD's of the respective departments and other Faculty Members.

The stage performances included solo singing, group dance, Bhangra and many more fun activities. Moreover, special performance was given by Mizoram students regarding their traditional culture.

Exhibition cum sale of Desi Ghee under 'Live project'

Exhibition cum sale of Desi Ghee under ‘Live project’ of Agriculture was organized on 28th April 2016 in BFGI Campus involving the students of B.Sc Agriculture 4 year 6 semester. 15 kg of Desi Ghee was sold with a profit of 6000/- which in turn boost the morale of students for such future ‘Live Projects’.

Exhibition cum sale of honey under ‘Live project’ of Agriculture was organized on 30th March 2016 in BFGI Campus involving the students of B.Sc Agriculture 4 year 6 semester. The said Live Project had been started from 3 boxes in 2014 and now reached upto 18 boxes. This year 50kg of Honey was sold with a profit of 15,000/- which is a great achievement of the Department. Mr Hardeep Singh, Mr Khushwinder Singh and Mr Rajwinder Singh under the Guidance of Dr. Rakesh Kumar and Dr G. S. Gatoria had completed the project with a very dedicated and positive approach. This live project was held at Village Bhlaiana situated in Bathinda.
FRESHER'S FIESTA

Department of Agriculture, Baba Farid College, Bathinda, organized Freshers Party to welcome the newcomers under the theme Fresher's Fiesta. The function was well organized and occurred in a very descent manner in order to welcome the freshers (1st semester of 4th year (Agri.) by the students of 3rd semester of 4th year (Agri.). Both Freshers and older ones performed more than 25 stage performances. The overall management of the party was in the hands of the students, but only few faculty members especially 'Activity members' helped the students for organizing the same. The total gathering was nearbout 450 which included students, HoD's of the respective faculties and other Faculty Members.
Different stage performances included solo singing, solo dance, Bhangra solo, Bhangra group, Nepali dance, Malvai Gidda and Bhangra were performed on the occassion. Out of these programs, the last performance was appreciated by all and considered as the best one.

EARN WHILE LEARN
Students of B.Sc. Agriculture conducted a live project on sericulture under the moto of EARN WHILE LEARN . This live project was organised under the supervision and guidance of Dr. G.S.Gatoria, Dr. Rahul Joshi (Faculties of Agriculture Department). It was visited by our managing director Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal. It's a good initiative done by department of Agriculture by which student can earn also while studying.
