Guest Lecture on Financial System in India (26th October 2016)
Department of Economics has organized a guest lecture on 26th October 2016. Dr. Anita Gill, Professor, Dept. of Distance Education, Punjabi University Patiala was the resource person. She has more than 25 years of teaching and research experience. Dr. Anita Gill presented her expert opinion on the topic, Financial System in India. Lecture commenced at 11 am. All the faculty members of department of Economics and students of MA Economics (1st year and 2nd year) attended the lecture. Dr. Anita Gill covered in detail the components of Financial System in India. She discussed Financial Institutions, Financial markets, Instruments and financial services. Finally, the lecture was concluded by answering the questions asked by students. At the end Ms. Ramandeep Kaur gave vote of thanks. In brief, that lecture was quite motivational and inspiring.

Guest Lecture on 5th April 2016
Department of Geography has organized a guest lecture on 5th April 2016. Dr. Suryakant, Professor, Deptt of Geography, Panjab University Chandigarh was the resource person. Dr. Suryakant presented his expert opinion on Post Modernism, Status of Geography In India and Geography of Globalisation. The entire lecture was presented in two session i.e. starting at around 11:15am till 1pm and in afternoon session from 2pm to 4pm in two way interaction with Post Graduate students of MSc Geography. Expert lecture was based on pre and post 1950 period reflecting the various paradigms in geography. He also conveyed how various theories and models fail to solve the ground realities and its outcome as new paradigm as post modernism. The lecture was a continuum of Positivism, Realism and Post Modernism. The scope of Post Modernism was also presented as limitation of Post Modernism. The second session conveyed the status of Geography in India and discussed how geography travels from school discipline to university discipline. He also touched the parts regarding Horizontal and vertical expansion of subject. The lecture also comprises the expansion of discipline under three phases ie. 1930-60’s, 1960’s- 1980’s and 1980’s onwards. Under the lecture the present day dilemma and confusion was also discussed. In last session the focus the main focus was how the role of physical space has diminished after the expansion of communication and transportation and how globalization changes the subject matter of social science in general and geography in particular.

Guest Lecture for the students of M.A. on 30-03-2016
The department of Economics has organized a guest lecture for the students of M.A. on 30-03-2016 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Mini Seminar Hall (Block-D).The Resource person was Dr. R.K. Uppal (Associate Professor, DAV College, Malout). The topic for the lecture was “Research Paper Writing Skills”. Mr. Dilshad Ali (HOD, Economics and Geography) and the faculty members of Economics department were present there. Mr. Lakhvir Singh gave the welcome speech. Dr. R.K.Uppal discussed in detail the research papers writing skills. Factors that should be considered while writing a research paper were also discussed in detail. He also guided the students for the preparation of UGC-NET,JRF and SLET and M.Phil. , Ph.D. Finally the lecture was concluded by answering the questions asked by students. Total 40 students from Economics department attended the lecture. In brief, that lecture was quite motivational and inspiring.

Workshop on "Recent Trends and Developments in Economics"
The department of Economics organized a three day workshop on "Recent Trends and Developments in Economics". The resource person was Dr. Iqbal Singh (Retd Professor , University of Delhi and visiting fellow Oxford University). The topic of discussion for 7th October, 2015 was "Economic Growth in Historical Perspective". Head, Department of Economics, Mr Dilshad Ali, Ms. Parveen Rani (Assistant Professor, Economics), Dr. Harvinder Kaur (Assistant Professor, Economics) were present there. Almost 55 students from M.A. I, M.A. II and B.A. III (Economics) were present in the workshop. Mr. Lakhvir Singh, Assistant Professor, department of Economics gave a welcome speech. After the welcome speech Dr. Iqbal Singh started his lecture with introduction to growth and development. Later on various concepts related to growth and data related to income levels of different countries was were shown via powerpoint presentation. Dr. Iqbal threw light on the concept of global inequality and particularly the income inequality in Europe and U.S. He also discussed the extent of inequalities of income in different countries of the world. The concept of wealth inequalities and tax revenues were also discussed by him.

On the second day of workshop, Dr. Iqbal Singh discuss in detail “Education, Health and social well being.”  He has discussed the detail the relation between different indicators of growth. While emphasizing the importance of education, he discussed the changing importance of capital assets and also stressed on the importance of human capital and the spread of education for reducing inequalities. He also discussed the importance of health and the relation between per capita income and life expectancy. Data related to life expectancy and per capita income of different countries was also shown via different tables and graphs. Other indicators of health like infant mortality, maternal mortality, total fertility rate, access to improved sanitation were also discussed during  the lecture. Dr. Iqbal Singh also compared India and Bangladesh on the basis of different indicators of health.

On the third day of workshop, Dr. Iqbal Singh discussed Development Experience of India and China since 1950s. He discussed achievements of India and China before 1980. In this he stressed upon institutional changes, economic reforms and outcomes of various economic reforms. He also differentiated between authoritarianism and democratic governments and also discussed the problems of governance in both the systems. Data related to share of China and India in world GDP, value added in China as compared to other East Asian Countries, difference in Chinese reforms as compared to India and other Asian countries has also been discussed. He also discussed the impact of China’s slowdown on other countries. After this interactive lecture, he sorted out the queries of the students. In the end, Mr. Dilshad Ali thanked Dr. Iqbal Singh for sharing his precious views with the students and Dr. H.L. Jasuja (Dean, Sciences) honoured Dr. Iqbal Singh with momentum as a token of remembrance.

Act Laws and Policies on Environment
An extension lecture has been organized in the department of geography dated 28th sept 2015. Assistant Professor Dr. Simrat Kahlon was invited as a resource person from Punjab University. Topic of the lecture was Act Laws and Policies on Environment. All the teachers, Head of the department, students of Msc Geography (Ist and IInd) and B.A. III (Geography) were present there. Mr. Sukhpreet Singh introduced the resource person and welcome her. Dr. Simrit Kahlon started the lecture after praising the college for serving the Malwa region so effectively. She started the lecture after defining the environment and how human kind had modified the environment for adaptation. She discussed how environmental degradation has started and gave many examples. She discussed the environmental phenomena like Climate change, Global Warming, O3 depletion and Forest Depletion. She also discussed the historical perspective of environmental degradation and international events that led to the formation of various international treaties, acts and law for the conservation of our environment. Students also participated actively in the discussion and compared the contribution of developed and developing countries in global warming. In the end Mr. Dilshad Ali thaked Dr.Simrit Kahlon for coming and sharing her views with the students.

Feminism in Modern India
The department of History organized a guest lecture for the students of M.A. History and B.A IIIrd students of History. The resource person was Dr. Manju Malhotra, Professor at Punjab University , Chandigarh. Total 70 students were present in the lecture. The topic of the extension lecture was ‘Feminism in Modern India’. Mr. Vijay Kumar, Lecturer, Department of History started the lecture with a welcome speech. Dr. Manju Malhotra started her lecture with introduction to Feminism through powerpoint presentation. Later on she explained the position of women during different periods of History. She displayed the names of pioneer women of ancient India. Students shows their interest in the lecture and sorted their queries from Dr. Malhotra. Dr. Jagdev Kumar, Head ,Department of English thanked to Dr. Manju Malhotra for sharing his valuable knowledge regarding Feminism in modern India.

Overview and introduction to Remote Sensing
The department of Geography organized a guest lecture for the students of M.Sc Geography. The resource person was Dr. Dipendra Nath Dass, Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.Total 42 students were present in the lecture. The topic of the extension lecture was Overview and introduction to Remote Sensing. Mr. Sukhpreet Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Geography started the lecture with a welcome speech. Dr. Nath started his lecture with introduction to Remote Sensing through powerpoint presentation. Later on he explained visual perception of remote sensing and importance of imaging from space.Dr. Nath explained in detail the remote sensing process and its principle.Students shows their interest in the lecture and sorted their queries from Sir. Dr. Dilshad Ali thanked to Dr. DipendraNathDass for sharing his valuable knowledge regarding remote sensing.

Extension Lecture on Employability
Department of Economics organized an extension lecture by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Khurana, Assistant Professor in Department of Economics, Punjabi University Regional Centre, Bathinda on 25th March 2015.The lecture started with a welcome speech delivered by Mrs. Harpinder Kaur, coordinator of department of Economics. The topic of guest lecture was Employability. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Khurana guided the students regarding professional and other skills required for employability and also discuss data regarding employability in India. He shared his valuable knowledge with us. Students show their interest in the lecture and sorted their queries from Sir. The lecture was finished by Ms. Parveen Rani, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics.

Extension Lecture by Dr. Kuldeep Singh
Department of History had organized an extension lecture by Dr. Kuldeep Singh, Guest faculty in IAS training and Allied center in Punjabi University , Patiala on 11th march 2015. The lecture started with a welcome speech delivered by Mrs. Gurpreet kaur, deputy HOD of history department. Dr. kuldeep singh guided students how to prepare for competitive exam. He shared his valuable knowledge with students. Students showed their interest in this lecture and asked their queries The lecture was finished by thanks speech delivered by Mrs Harmeet kaur, Lecturer of History department.

Extension Lecture by Dr.Bhaswatidas
The department of Geography organized the extension lecture on "Changing age structure and ageing in India" and "writing a good paper" on 20th February 2015. For this purpose they invited, Dr. Bhaswatidas from Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi. Assistant Prof. Minakshi welcomed the guest lecturer and introduced the guest with the students. Students interacted with expert lecturer asking various questions and she gave very satisfactory answers to all queries. They enjoyed this lecture very much and this lecture became so much helpful in order to clear the queries of students related to this major topic of Geography. The concluding and thanks words were delivered by Prof. Dilshad Ali.
